We all know to well that our wonderful british and eropean climate plays havoc within the equine world Mud Fever occurs during the wet winter months and is principally caused by the bacterium Dermatophilus congolensis. Mud fever is essentially a form of dermatitis which affects the skin on the heel, fetlock and pastern. All horses can be affected, but particularly those with long hair around the fetlock. Back legs are more prone to mud fever than front. Inflammation of the skin and underlying tissues leads to the skin swelling, stretching and weeping; cracks appear, hair falls out and hard scabs form. Neem oil applied to these areas direct will not only heal but prevent further outbreaks. You will notice imediate effects within your horse as in severe mud fever as Neem Oil also works well as pain relief. if your horse is prone to mud fever remember prevention is far easier than curing!!! When applying Neem oil we recommend wearing surgical gloves as Pure Neem Oil has a pungent smell and although brilliant for your hands :o) it really does smell. Neem oil is as safe as honey and very natural but like anything new always treat a very small test area for 24hrs to make sure there is no reaction. You may find due to the bacteria and maybe antibiotics from your vet your horses imune system becomes very low so we highly recomend Neem leaf Granules fed 3oz every day We always sugest in very severe cases you consult your Vet.
